Tiraspol, September 15. / Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today in Tokyo Test Pre Olympic Rowing competitions on kayaks and canoe and para canoe come to the end. The strongest athletes from 47 countries of the world participate there. They received special invitations from the International federation.
Kirill Shamshurin went in training camp to Barnaul before start in Tokyo. It was organized for members of the Russian national team, those who apply for getting to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The goal of the training camp is checking of athletes’ acclimatization. Barnaul and Vladivostok are considered to be the base for the final stage of preparation for the Olympic Games.
Rowers could get acquainted with the venue of the Olympic Games 2020. The rowing channel Sea Forest Waterway is constructed in the zone of the Tokyo Bay. Its length is 2500 m, 8 paths. On the channel till May 20, 2020, about 56 test competitions will be held. READY STEADY TOKYO is the official motto of the competitions. The design of a logo has something in common with the Japanese calligraphy and symbolizes dynamics of rowing and splashes of water.
In preliminary races Kirill Shamshurin showed the best time and conceded only 0.5 seconds in the final to the three-time Olympic champion Sebastian Brendel. Among competitors, there were also rowers from Belarus, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, Canada, Spain and Japan.
Kirill Shamshurin surely bypassed the basic rival of Pole Tomasz Kachor who finished the third. Kachor is a winner of the European Games in Minsk and the prize-winner of the World Cup 2019. In Minsk Shamshurin took silver in the single and competed at the World Cup in the two where he won the Olympic license.
The Olympic licenses in rowing on kayaks and canoe are not nominal. In Tokyo there will be 6 athletes from each country at men and women in competitions of kayaks and also on three – in canoe.
Licenses will be played next year on the continental qualification tournaments and the II World Cup stage. The European tournament will take place on May 6-7 in Rachitsa, Czech, Kubok Mira – in Duisburg, Germany on May 21-24.
