PRIDNESTROVIE IS PREPARING FOR VARIOUS SCENARIOS OF THE RUSSIAN GAS TRANSIT ISSUE RESOLUTION

The laws that will be considered in parliament this autumn reflect the algorithms for action in the event of a positive or negative outcome

Tiraspol, August, 29. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie is ready for various options of the "gas" issue development, both positive and negative. This was announced at a press conference by the PMR President Vadim Krasnoselski.

A number of draft laws on this topic are already being developed in the republic. The Supreme Council will consider them this year. The documents discuss options for dealing with all possible scenarios for resolving the issue of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.

“They have several plans: A - preservation of transit, B - pressure reduction in the pipe during transit, C - lack of transit. For each option, there is an algorithm of officials` actions. Decisions of an economic nature that our neighbors take have a negative effect on us. But in the case when everyone, starting from an ordinary citizen and ending with a representative of the authorities, knows what needs to be done, the negative consequences are reduced by several times,” the head of state said.

At the same time, he emphasized that the transit issue resolution was exclusively the Russian and Ukrainian Presidents` responsibility.

“We cannot influence the transit of Russian gas - neither I nor President Dodon, who constantly talks about this. It is in the competence of two presidents - Putin and Zelenski. But we must take into account everything, including negative scenarios, and be prepared for them,” Vadim Krasnoselski said.

He also emphasized that, despite the excitement observed recently on this topic, there was no panic in the Pridnestrovian society about that.

It should be recalled that in 2020 the contract of Russia with Ukraine for gas transit ends. Russia has already proposed to the Ukrainian side to extend the existing contract. What decision the neighboring country will make is still unclear. Earlier, representatives of Ukraine announced their readiness to stop the transit of gas from Russia.

Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission are holding trilateral negotiations on gas transit after 2019. No specific agreements were reached, however, the EC made a proposal to the parties regarding a possible future contract: the term is more than 10 years, the volumes are attractive, including for investors who will be invited to modernize the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
