NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IS PREPARING NEW STUFF ABOUT PRIDNESTROVIE

Journalists from Holland want to tell about the uniqueness of PMR

Tiraspol, June, 27. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A film crew from the National Geographic international magazine arrived in Pridnestrovie. It should be recalled: last year, the magazine has already published an article about the "mysterious land" of Pridnestrovie. The current guests from Holland want to devote a lot of stuff to our republic, to tell about its economy, culture and history. They had already walked through the streets of Tiraspol, noted their cleanliness and a lot of flowers. They managed to evaluate the local market and, as they put it, “the amazing taste of tomatoes”. And during a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, they learned about state investment support, the development of block chain technologies, the tourism development program and the specifics of the economy.

A separate issue is history. Pridnestrovie is called the intersection of worlds and civilizations: since ancient times various cultures have intersected and mixed together. The head of the Ministry of Economic Development Sergei Obolonik said that that was another interesting feature of Pridnestrovie.

“These are not only objects that are immediately visible: the Turkish fortress in Bendery and objects related to the presence of the Russian Empire here. We have a very impressive ancient history. Few people know, for example, that the legendary Amazons lived on our territory. Tourists are also interested in a huge layer of modern history - the heritage of the USSR,” he explained.

The lack of recognition is another attraction point for tourists. Journalists noted: little is known about Pridnestrovie. Yet the existing information is usually given through the prism of the “fragment of the USSR”.

“Your story is incredibly interesting. The fact that you have been unrecognized for 30 years is simply amazing. And for me, this is the most interesting thing,” National Geographic magazine journalist Marco Barneveld said.

The film crew arrived in Pridnestrovie only yesterday. They are planning to stay here for a week. During this time, they will visit the most picturesque places of the republic, talk to its residents to learn, and then tell interesting stories about the PMR.

“My job for National Geographic is creating stories that inspire people to come to certain countries. I always give a backstory and its connection with the contemporary state of development. My stories are the quintessence of everything that happens in a particular country. I try to capture and show all these details in my material,” Marco Barneveld says.
