Tiraspol, June, 19. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Bendery hosts memorable events dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the Bendery tragedy. The Day of Remembrance and Grief for the victims began with a public rally to the Tribulation Memorial from Liberation Square.

Immortal Regiment led the march. Portraits of those who gave their lives for the sake of the bright future of Pridnestrovie, but did not live to see today, were carried by their fellow soldiers, relatives and friends. President of Pridnestrovie Vadim Krasnoselski, the head and members of the Government, deputies of the Supreme Council, representatives of public organizations, citizens were in the same line together with the defenders of the republic and the residents of the city.

At the memorial, the leadership of the republic and the city together with Pridnestrovians honored the memory of the defenders of the republic with a minute of silence and laid fresh flowers on the granite slabs.

On June 19, 1992, the nationalists of Moldova invaded the peaceful Pridnestrovian city of Bendery. For 40 days and nights, Bendery citizens had been experienced all the horrors of war. Guards, militia, Cossacks and civilians stood up to defend the city.

In 1992, Nasreddin Mehdiyev was the deputy Chairman of the executive committee on urban economy. He recalls that that year a hot June did not foretell anything tragic. The city lived peacefully, people worked.

“We were in a peaceful mood, but suddenly we were attacked. This was done on purpose to ensure their fast victory. But their plan failed. The cohesion and unity of our people, regardless of nationality, helped defend our republic,” Nasreddin Mehdiyev, a participant in the hostilities said.

President of Pridnestrovie Vadim Krasnoselski stressed after the ceremony of laying flowers at the Tribulation Memorial that today Pridnestrovians remembered those who, at the cost of their lives, had defended the young republic, defended the right of people of different nationalities to live in their native land in peace and friendship.

“It is important to remember and tell about their feats, that they defended and that those sacrifices were not in vain. Republic happened, and has been existing for almost 30 years. We are the State with all the attributes, and I am convinced that every defender took a step towards recognizing our statehood with his life,” the head of State said in communication with the media.

Vadim Krasnoselski also stressed that, future generations need to know and remember the pages of the State history, no matter how tragic they were.

“We are sometimes urged not to live in the past. The past is our life, and not remembering the past means not remembering those who gave their lives defending our state ... And whatever pain is in the heart and head, we need to talk about peace. That`s what we live for. I am convinced that the victims were not for the sake of war, but for the sake of peace,” the President pointed out.

In an interview with the head of the Pridnestrovian State Vadim Krasnoselski, media representatives mentioned the statements of the President of the Republic of Moldova about the fact that he did not rule out the escalation of tension in Pridnestrovie. The journalists also mentioned the accusations of the head of the Moldovan State against the Pridnestrovian citizens of the Republic of Moldova that they did not vote for the party of socialists, whose leader is Igor Dodon, at the parliamentary elections. “This is some kind of democracy in Dodon`s way: to divide into friends and foes and to make politics on this. And then - no comments,” the PMR President stressed.

The fact that the danger of the events of 1992 repetition still exists is evidenced by the fact that Moldovan politicians who started the war in the 1990s did not recognize that crime against the people. There is no legal assessment given of what happened, recalled Prime Minister Alexander Martynov.

“I was 11 years old, and I remember well the horror that reigned in the republic. This is a howl of sirens, destruction, victims. And, as a child, I could not understand why it all happened. Then it became clear that it was happening in the wake of nationalism. Because we speak the wrong language, we write with the wrong letters. We bow our heads in respect to the defenders of Pridnestrovie, who saved us from the wave of fascism, which we almost received,” said Alexander Martynov.

He noted that today the task of the Government was to tell the younger generation the truth about how and why our republic had been created through school programs.

In continuation of mourning events, the leadership of the republic and the city headed by the President of the PMR visited the Military Historical Memorial Complex, as well as the Borisovskoe cemetery in Bendery, where flowers were laid on the graves of the Pridnestrovian defenders and victims of the Bendery tragedy on the Alley of Heroes.

Fresh flowers formed the memorial sign "The Women - Defenders of the PMR" and the memorial sign to the dead defenders, located on Echin street.
