Tiraspol, June, 6. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pushkin in Tiraspol action was held today, on the poet`s birthday, in the Pridnestrovian capital under the auspices of the Renovation Party and its youth wing. The activists celebrated the 220th anniversary of the birth of the genius of Russian poetry with a costume walk.
Alexander Pushkin was in Tiraspol during the Southern exile on his way from Odessa to Bessarabia and back. According to some sources, in the winter of 1824 the poet stayed in the city with his friend Ivan Liprandi. According to unconfirmed reports, guests were received in one of the houses on the main street, which has been preserved to this day.
This story formed the basis of the plot, which was seen today by the people of Tiraspol. Buggy ride, harnessed with a sturdy horse, drove into Tiraspol from Odessa. The appearance of Alexander Sergeevich on the streets of the city caused the most joyful emotions: pedestrians waved to the poet, motorists gave sound signals, according to the website of the party.
The poet walked around the streets, accompanied by dressed-up girls, wearing, as expected, dresses of the beginning of the 19th century, talked to townspeople, put smile on children`s faces, who came to the Pushkin festival in the central library, gave an interview to journalists near the monument to himself.
Pushkin and his companions took shelter from the approaching thunderstorm in one of the coffee shops, where they not only treated themselves to a hot aromatic drink, but also talked to guests from Germany who had come to see Tiraspol. An unexpected meeting was very warm. A gift to the guests of the city was a slim volume of Pushkin's poems autographed by the “author”.
Tiraspol school number 2, near which stands the marble bust of the poet, and also the city library bears the name of Pushkin. Since 1990, near the library there stands a monument to the poet, made by sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov. One of the streets in the old part of Tiraspol carries Pushkin`s name.
