The master of sports of international class, the pent champion of Russia, the bronze medalist of the European Championship, para-tennis player from Tiraspol Dmitry Lavrov won another medal at prestigious competitions. At the World Cup stage, the Pridnestrovian won the silver award.
Competitions among athletes with musculoskeletal disorders were held in the Polish city of Vladislavovo. More than 200 players from 34 countries took part in the competition. Radio 1 reported that they had been divided into 11 sports classes.
Performing in the first sports class of wheelchair tennis players, Dmitry Lavrov defeated athletes from Jordan and Chinese Taipei with a score of 3: 0. The match with the Swiss Silvio Keller ended with the score 3: 1. And with the same score he lost to the winner, the Swede Endre Major.
As Dmitry Lavrov said, it was one of the tournaments for the selection for the Paralympic Games in 2020. Recall it will be held in the summer in Tokyo.
“The selection of participants for the Paralympic Games began this year and will continue until the end of March next year. During this time, they must take part in five tournaments. Competitions in Poland were the third in a row. Two more tournaments ahead. Participation in the European Championship which will be held in September in Sweden is necessary,” Dmitry Lavrov said.
Now para-tennis player actively preparing for this competition. The athlete says that a lot will depend on the results.
“For me it is now very important to perform well in this championship, to win medals. There will be strong Europeans. The more I will win, the more rating points I will get and go up in the rating list,” Dmitry explained.
At the moment, according to the results of the updated world ranking, the Pridnestrovian para-tennis player, who plays for the Russian team, is ranked 16th.
