Tiraspol, May, 22. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. They showed a very high level and proved their right to be among the best students of the PSU Economics’ Faculty . Irina Belotkach, Nadezhda Shevchenko, Yana Moisey, Svetlana Stratulat and Diana Malysheva represented our republic and took 2nd place at the IV International Olympiad on Economic History. The girls admit that every year the Olympiad becomes more difficult.
“Questions have been changed: earlier it was a deepening in the classical political economy, and now it is a more modern level. We did not expect such questions. But we were lucky, and our task was about the “Capital” by Karl Marx,” students of the Faculty of Economics say.
The Olympiad consisted of 3 rounds: crosswords, blitz, and in the final round the teams asked questions to each other. Of the 8 teams that participated in the competition, we scored the maximum number of points in the 3rd stage.
As the participants themselves noted, the most difficult round, yet the most interesting one was the third round, when the teams asked each other questions. There it was impossible to predict from which sphere the question would be.
Our result in the Olympiad: second place with a gap of only 0.75 points from the first. Our economists took the same position together with the Higher School of Economics and gave way to the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. M. V. Lomonosov MSU and Abkhaz State University took the third places.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of PSU Ivan Uzun, this year was really difficult, because almost all the teams are at the same high level. He teaches Economic History at the university and is a team mentor.
“We are learning from the textbooks of those authors who have prepared other teams of the Olympiad. This is above all praise, when an ambitious professor at the Higher School of Economics approaches you and says: “Pridnestrovians, you did good!” Participation in such competitions compels to move even further. Of course, we want to take first place, so we will strive hard for this,” Ivan Uzun said.
In this competition, the team of PSU Faculty of Economics participates for the third time. Until this year, they won the third place twice in a row. This time we performed even better. They began to prepare from December, and a correspondence tour took place in February and March.
The girls said that they were very afraid of Lomonosov MSU, because it was their most main rivals. They did not expect such high results.
“When it was time to announce the results, we didn’t even expect to be among the top three. There was immediately a storm of emotions, tears. Adrenaline, excitement, happiness. Probably, we squealed louder than anyone else,” the participants shared.
For a state university, such a result is a confirmation of the good quality of knowledge. Next year, the team of the economics department of PSU will also go to the Olympiad, yet in a renewed line-up.
