Absolutely free of charge, the organizers offered residents and guests of the capital to repack their products and things from plastic into paper bags, and most importantly, they reminded about the dangers of plastic to the environment. In total, about 100 people took part in the environmental action.
“The alternative bags offered by us are strong enough and can bear the weight of a 15 kg. When creating these paper bags, not a single tree was damaged. This is a completely environmentally friendly product created from recycled materials. All plastic bags collected by us will be passed over for recycling,” Dmitry Volosyuk said.
Today, global consumption of plastic bags exceeds one million units per minute, which in annual terms leads to the production of more than a trillion bags. In nature, plastic decomposition takes up to a thousand years and only one pack out of 200 is recycled.
Many countries have long been concerned about the health of the environment and are selling products exclusively in paper bags. Activists of the metropolitan public organization hope that after such an action, a part of Pridnestrovians will also refuse to use polyethylene in their life and make a choice in favor of paper bags or eco-bags.
