PARLIAMENTARIANS MET WITH HEAD OF OSCE MISSION TO RM CLAUS NEUKIRCH

The parties discussed topical issues of the negotiation process

Tiraspol, April, 25. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Supreme Council held a meeting with the head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mission to the Republic of Moldova Claus Neukirch, the press service of the Supreme Council reports.

Recall that the OSCE mediates in political negotiations in the “5 + 2” format between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

“We highly appreciate the activities of the OSCE mission, its contribution to the Pridnestrovian settlement process. The mission is making continuous efforts to build a sustainable dialogue between the parties. We are ready to discuss issues of mutual interest,” Chairman of the Supreme Council Alexander Korshunov greeted the interlocutor.

Claus Neukirch in turn noted the important role of parliament in the negotiation process.

“The agreements reached by the political representatives, the leaders of the parties during the negotiations, subsequently need legislative consolidation. It is important for us to know the point of view of the Supreme Council. Therefore, we are ready to discuss with deputies those areas and areas in which pragmatic decisions will go to the benefit of the residents,” the diplomat stated.

The meeting focused on the resumption of the negotiation process in the “5 + 2” format, the implementation of agreements that have already been signed by the two parties.

The deputies noted that Pridnestrovie in contrast to Moldova fulfills its obligations. Among the issues that still require resolution are the creation of conditions for the free movement of citizens, the protection of their rights and freedoms, the termination of politically motivated criminal cases. There are also points that need to be regulated.

Separate attention was paid to the resumption of dialogue between the parliaments of the PMR and the Republic of Moldova.

“There are issues that we could resolve and regulate at the legislative level. However, this is not an easy way, considering that after the elections the parliament has not yet been formed in Moldova. First, the preparatory work should be carried out at the level of experts who will prepare the agenda. We are not supporters of holding meetings for the sake of meetings. There are a large number of agreements signed but not implemented in practice,” Galina Antyufeeva, Vice-Speaker, Chairperson of the Foreign Policy and International Relations Commission commented on the meeting’s results.

She added that in Pridnestrovie, they had always advocated that the agreements reached be implemented.

“Deputies of the Supreme Council expect that such meetings with international partners will give a new impetus to moving towards the point of solving the unsolved problems that concern our citizens,” Galina Antyufeeva concluded.
