THE SECOND RED BOOK WILL BE PUBLISHED IN PRIDNESTROVIE IN 2020

About 40 plant species will be added to it

Tiraspol, March, 27. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Next year the second edition of the Red Book will be published in the republic. The first one saw the light in 2009. It includes 84 species of plants and mushrooms, and 157 species of rare and threatened species of animals.

By law, the Red Book should be published once every 10 years and contain not only information about threatened species, but also measures for their preservation. As the director of the Republican Scientific Research Institute of Ecology and Natural Resources, Vera Ruschuk, told the board of the State Service for Environmental Control and Environmental Protection, a special commission examines the conditions of flora and fauna between the publications.

“We are also studying rare plants that need to be protected. After all, what do we include in the Red Book? Those species that are on the boundary of the area, those that are very rare, that are threaten to go extinct. If we talk about plants, we should always talk about the territories in which they grow, because plants must live in communities, that is, we need to protect these rare communities. We studied the nature reserve fund, the conditions which it and the plant communities are located in, and monitored the natural forests,” she said.

Now experts are developing a forest restoration program. It implies the protection of those rare species of plants and animals that are found on our territory.

For 10 years, more than 40 species of plants have appeared, which must be included in the Red Book. This information is also correlated with information on species protected in neighboring countries. Meanwhile, it is quite possible that some previously introduced species will be excluded from the second edition. The commission will decide what they will be.
