Tiraspol, February, 13. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. In the lead-up to the thirtieth anniversary of the Soviet troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Ministry of the Interior held a solemn meeting, during which the movie “We Are Internationalists. Afghanistan 1979 - 1989. A Brief History of War” was screened.
“Our people did the most important thing. They`d done their international duty, dying, getting injured, returning home with a huge psychological trauma. The war of 1992 and all conflicts that took place in the post-Soviet space were stoked by the spark of the Afghanistan war” - Interior Minister Ruslan Mova addressed the audience and thanked the soldiers for their courage and heroism.
The press service of the Ministry of Interior reported that several employees of the department were encouraged by gratifying letters and cash prizes for the courage shown during service on Afghanistan territory, and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the territory of the republic.
According to the local state administration website the solemn event was held today in Kamenka. The event was attended by soldiers-internationalists, military service veterans, defenders of Pridnestrovie, participants in the liquidation of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, military personnel, deputies, relatives of the victims, leaders of public organizations, students.
The chairman of the district council of veterans, Yuri Zhora, introduced those present with the fate of the residents of the area who fulfilled the international and military duty with honor.
“The land of Kamenka lost its four sons, three of whom - Konstantin Kiper, Dmitry Zhukovsky and Yuri Gavreevich - died in Afghanistan, Mikhail Lupashko - in Cuba. They are commemorated with dignity: there had been erected memorial tablets and a stele dedicated to peacekeeping soldiers, the book “Debt and Honor” had been published. Today, 84 peacekeeping soldiers live in the area, most of whom are Afghans (49 people) and Cubans (24 people)” - Yuri Zhora said.
A number of peacekeeping soldiers, as well as members of the Young Patriot of Pridnestrovie detachments, were awarded diplomas by the head of the regional and city administration and diplomas of the district council of veterans.
“Our soldiers showed extraordinary heroism and devotion to the Motherland on the fields of various battles, fulfilling their military duty honestly and completely. They also made an enormous contribution to the development of their country in peacetime, earning sincere gratitude and respect” - the head of the Kamenka state administration Vladimir Bychkov emphasized.
Thematic exhibitions are organized in the museums of cities and regions. For example, today in the Rybnitsa Museum of Military Glory, the exposition “Afghanistan - our memory and pain” took place. It presents exhibits, among which there are models of various ammunition, field radio stations, photographs and personal belongings of war participants.
Slobodzeya Historical Museum prepared a video presentation "True to the oath". It includes footage from the movie “Afghanistan 1979-1989”, memories of peacekeeping soldiers of the Slobodzeya Region, documents and photographs of their countrymen.
