Tiraspol, 11 July. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today, one of the republican newspapers published in Moldavian, "Adevarul Nistrean" marks its 24th anniversary. Its editor-in-chief is Sergey Sandu.

The decision to establish the newspaper was adopted by the Supreme Council together with the first Pridnestrovian president Igor Smirnov, along with two other republican newspapers "Gomin" (in Ukrainian) and "Pridnestrovie" (in Russian).

As Sergey Sandu told our correspondent, the first issue of "Adevarul Nistrean" was published at the same time as the newspaper "Pridnestrovie" on 1 September 1994 and was timed to the 4th anniversary of the republic's formation. The combined coloured and black and white issue was dedicated to the country's founding fathers. It also published archival photos from a congress at which the establishment of the PMR was proclaimed.

Technical equipment was minimal, as was the case with all the media back then. The journalists used typewriters, such as "Yatran" and "Ukraine" - only some time after special editorial equipment was purchased.

"The first editor-in-chief was Semyon Vasilyevich Groza, who retained this position for several years. He was succeeded by Vladimir Ivanovich Afanasyev, who did a lot both for the newspaper itself and for the editorial staff. Unfortunately, they have already passed away," Sandu explained.

"A lot, of course, has changed over the years. I think that in the future the newspaper will remain in its place because its main slogan reads: 'Moldavians! Take care of your native language!' Moreover, right-bank unionists claim that there are no Moldavians at all. And the Moldovians were, are and will always be," says the editor-in-chief.

Each issue of "Adevarul Nistrean" tells its readers about traditions, culture, folklore, as well as about the events that take place in the country. The newspaper fruitfully cooperates with the republican movement "Union of Moldovians of Pridnestrovie", fulfilling strategic tasks in the development of Pridnestrovian statehood through the development and strengthening of the Moldavian language. In 2009, the newspaper was awarded the Order of Honour.

Sergey Sandu also emphasized that "Adevarul Nistrean" is the only printed publication in the world which is published in the Cyrillic-based Moldavian language. The main audience is rural residents as well as students of Moldavian-language schools.

Sergey Sandu stressed that "Adevarul Nistrean" is keeping up with the times. The bulk of the material can be found on the website of "Pridnestrovskaya Gazeta". But the Internet edition, according to the editor, does not benefit the newspaper as it reduces its subscription rate, which is why most of its materials can be read only in print.

Sergey Sandu recalls with a smile that some time ago they published recipes of Moldavian national cuisine. After the issue had been released, the readers phoned and asked that these recipes be translated into Russian.

The head of the State Service of Mass Media Lydia Kolodka congratulated the editorial staff on the 24th anniversary, noting that the newspaper covers all political and social processes taking place in the PMR. "Adevarul Nistrean" continues the tradition of preserving the literary Moldavian language, which is especially important for the Pridnestrovians whose mother tongue is Moldavian.

"I would like to wish all the employees of the newspaper creativity, creative inspiration and new interesting projects. I hope that their skills and experience will allow them to successfully implement all creative plans and ideas. Success and good luck!" she noted.
