Tiraspol, 22 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. As part of a working visit to Moscow, the Pridnestrovian president visited Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), where he held a meeting with the university's rector, Viktor Sadovnichiy, the president's press service reports.
Welcoming the rector, Vadim Krasnoselsky thanked him for personal participation in strengthening Pridnesgtrovian-Russian relations in the educational sphere.
In its time, Sadovnichiy assisted in solving the problem of the recognition of university diplomas issued by Pridnestrovian State University (PSU) in Russia. With his support, the Pridnestrovian university was admitted to the Eurasian Association of Universities in 1999. The rector also did a lot for the training of scientific and teaching personnel of PSU: over 20 doctors and candidates of science defended their theses in MSU.
Speaking to the rector, Krasnoselsky underscored that the scientific and educational sphere was the pillar on which the unity of people rests, recalling Pridnestrovie's involvement in the Russian world and the choice of the Russian vector by the Pridnestrovian people. The president also spoke about the importance of implementing Russian educational norms, standards and mechanisms in the republican system of education. "We are interested in PSU's integration in the Russian educational space. The process is under way, but it must be intensified," noted Krasnoselsky.
The interlocutors raised the subject of the development of science abroad, indicating that there were problems with the accreditation of higher education institutions. Vadim Krasnoselsky underscored that the Pridnestrovian educational space was open to Russian science. "It must be understood that it is not the territory but the population living in this territory that is important. And there are 500,000 compatriots in Pridnestrovie, 220,000 of whom are Russian citizens," noted the president.
They also discussed the importance of providing Pridnestrovian youth with high-quality education consistent with Russian standards and the international level, as well as the desirability of giving PSU the status of a Russian-based university in Pridnestrovie and in the entire southwestern region of the CIS. This would significantly strengthen the position of the Russian educational system and the Russian world in this territory. The MSU leadership backs this initiative. The interlocutors also talked about the implementation of various joint educational programmes, the conduct of joint scientific research in history, sociology, philosophy, archaeology, journalism and natural sciences.
