New publications on Pridnestrovie to be issued by 30th anniversary

Preparations for the anniversary, which Pridnestrovie will mark in 2020, have already begun

Tiraspol, 17 October. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The president held an extended meeting with the involvement of the heads of the government and the Supreme Council, the heads of ministries and agencies, as well as journalists, dedicated to celebrating various anniversaries.

One of them is Pridnestrovie's 30th anniversary, which will be marked in 2020, the president's press service reports.

"We need to outline the basic things today, to work out a concept of celebrations so that it will serve as a milestone enabling each agency to develop its plans, generate ideas, explore various options," noted Krasnoselsky.

The president instructed Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University (PSU) to work out a plan for various forums and roundtable talks on the Pridnestrovian history, the prospects for the country's development and peacemaking in the region. The president gives a meaningful part to the discussion format and believes these activities should start well before 2020.

Work on the collection of materials to be published should be initiated without delay. The president drew attention to the gap in this sector, noting that illustrated and reliable publications on the country — books and albums — were good tools for overcoming the information blockade or misinformation about the country.

The new publications will tell about the country's history as a whole, about each city and district, about the great people whose names are inscribed in the Pridnestrovian chronicles. It is planned to publish a photo album, a book about the churches of Pridnestrovie and a three-volume encyclopedia, to republish the country’s atlas.

A working group will be formed soon to update and enrich a collection of publications about Pridnestrovie.

In addition, the state-owned TV company has been actively making documentaries.  Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed that films and video reports should not only be broadcast by the TV company but also be available on the Internet. Besides, the possibility of virtual tours of Pridnestrovie was discussed.

Meeting participants also discussed the issue of anniversary decorations, coins and stamps, outlined a list of contests to be held. They also spoke about the advisability of buying a new large removable stage, whose lease was unreasonably expensive.

Besides, there are plans to increase the number of flagpoles in the capital's central square. In the future, the flags of all Pridnestrovian cities and districts, as well as the flags of Pridnestrovie's sister republics — Karabakh, South Ossetia and Abkhazia — will be added to the existing flags of Pridnestrovie and Russia.

With regard to the festive events that will be held on 2 September 2020, the traditional elements will remain the same, with a military parade to show hardware and weapons and a theatrical performance to reinvigorate the history of the region and the Pridnestrovian statehood.  When making preliminary sketches of a large-scale performance, it was also decided to update historical costumes.

According to the president, preliminary work is needed not only to ensure accurate decisions and actions but also to distribute workloads, including financial, for several years.
