Pridnestrovian experts: '5+2' format is disadvantageous for Moldova

Tiraspol, September 11. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Since the beginning of the year, the Moldovan diplomacy has been taking steps to break the mechanism of the «Constant meeting …» format. Such opinion was voiced by the ex-Foreign Minister of Pridnestrovie Valery Litskay on the air of the First Pridnestrovian TV channel.

«This mechanism ('5+2') authorizes Pridnestrovie to show their (Moldova's) true colors, and that's why it is disadvantageous for Chisinau. Everything that they do is illegal. They want to do it behind the scenes. That's why they had frozen the format and then with the help of the Ukrainian diplomats first of all and other partners simply broke it," the expert emphasized.

At the same time, the director of the Mediator Political Research Bureau Sergey Shirokov notes that the long-term absence of the dialogue within the '5+2' format gives an evidence of the negotiation process blocking. At the same time, the political expert emphasized that it was possible after the arrangements signed in 2012 providing the OSCE with some special powers.

«The Austrian presidency had an opportunity to make certain progress after the German presidency which had been rather successful against the background of the previous crises, but, obviously, this resource wasn't used. We need to understand that the position of the OSCE was based on the documents of 2012 about the predominating role of the organization in carrying out official consultations» — Shirokov noted.
