Tiraspol, 29 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Moldova's appeal to the UN General Assembly with a request to withdraw Russian peacekeepers from the PMR has not slopped the attention of Moscow and Tiraspol. Pridnestrovie also intends to appeal the United Nations through Russia, Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky said during today's press conference.

«The peacekeepers have proved their efficiency through their lives and everyday service. Not a single peacekeeper has been killed in 25 years; there have been no serious conflicts. So, it turns out that the peacekeepers use peace to scare the neighbouring Moldova?» the president said, speaking about Kishinev's motives for making decisions, statements; approving declarations and letters to withdraw the Russian peacekeepers from the PMR.

The president said that he had already told the Pridnestrovian foreign minister, Vitaly Ignatyev, to draft proposals which the Russian Federation could voice in the UN as a guarantor of the negotiating process.

The first proposal for the UN includes the inadmissibility of unilateral restrictive measures against the PMR and the multinational people of Pridnestrovie. The second proposal is to organise a negotiation process on the PMR in the UN.

«If we see the stagnation of the negotiating process in the '5+2' format, why can't we bring the negotiating process to a new venue, a new level — the UN, where our voice will be heard and our problems will be addressed. This is why these proposals will be submitted to Russia, and only time will show how it will consider and make use of them. But I think it is quite objective. Moreover, Russia is a guarantor of the negotiating process and has the right to make such proposals, including in the UN," underscored Krasnoselsky.

Last week Moldova appealed to the UN with a request to put the issue of the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Pridnestrovie on the agenda of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, which begins on 12 September. The letter by Moldova's UN permanent representative, which became available for the Russian media, states that the presence of the Russian military «constitutes a threat to international peace and security.»

The initiative of the Moldovan authorities was condemned in the Russian Federation. Russia's UN permanent representative, Vasily Nebenzya, called this decision «unfriendly», and noted that it would «not contribute to the peacekeeping process, which has long been established in the '5+2' format.»

Later, Russia's MFA summoned the Moldovan ambassador to Russia, Andrei Neguta to point out the provocative nature of Kishinev's plan. The deputy foreign minister, Sergey Ryabkov, said that those actions ran counter to the realities of the presence of the limited Russian military contingent in Pridnestrovie.
