Joint control at Kuchurgan border crossing irritates relations between Kishinev and Tiraspol

Such a statement was made by Russia's deputy foreign minister Grigory Karasin in an interview with the Izvestia daily

Tiraspol, 29 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russia's deputy foreign minister Grigory Karasin touched on the situation in Pridnestrovie in his interview with the Izvestia daily. According to him, there is no common point of view in Moldovan society and political circles about ways of resolving the Moldo-Pridnestrovian conflict.

«It is important to avoid new irritants in relations between Tiraspol and Kishinev, such as the launch of joint Moldo-Ukrainian border and customs control at the Kuchurgan border crossing," believes Karasin.

The Russian diplomat underscored that Russia as a guarantor state and a mediator in the negotiating process is determined to promote dialogue between Kishinev and Tiraspol in the «5+2» format.

In the interview, Karasin also touched on the topic of Russian-Moldovan relations. He recalled the recent expulsion from Moldova of a group of Russian diplomats, to which Russia had to respond symmetrically.

«The incident, of course, reflects the severity of the domestic political struggle in Kishinev around the prospects for relations with Russia," said the diplomat.

Karasin said that Russia was ready to cooperate with all sensible, constructive-minded forces and governmental agencies in Kishinev but, at the same time, would adequately respond to provocations.

«We clearly differentiate between those behind this provocation and the vast majority of ordinary citizens of Moldova, who are kind to Russia and directly interested in active relations with our country," said Karasin.
