Government and Supreme Council to become founders of new media

Preparatory work is now under way to register them, the head of the relevant agency, Lidia Kolodka, told the president

Tiraspol, 13 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Vadim Krasnoselsky held a meeting with the heads of the Mass Media State Agency and PGTRK (Pridnestrovie's state-run TV and radio company).

The head of state wanted to know how the mass media law, a new version of which was signed in January, worked, the president's press service reports. One of its revised provisions concerns foundation of state-run media outlets. According to the law, the right to establish state-run media outlets belongs to the president, government, Supreme Council, and the judicial community.

This right has been finally claimed by the parliament and government. Today, on behalf of the president, the two branches of power are elaborating an additional agreement on co-foundation. Meanwhile, preparatory work is under way to register the new media outlets whose co-founders will be the government and Supreme Council, Lidia Kolodka told the president.

Lidia Kolodka also informed the president of the steps undertaken to enhance the work of the state TV channel, radio and the Pridnestrovie daily. Among the most serious problems to solve today is that of premises. The building that accommodates today the editorial office of the Pridnestrovie daily is municipal and does not belong to the relevant state agency. Besides, the documents are not properly arranged. Vadim Krasnoselsky instructed that the situation be sorted out as soon as possible.

The head of the TV company, Igor Nikitenko, highlighted the relevance of finding in the short term an acceptable solution to the issue of expanding the area occupied by PGTRK

The president instructed that information on all the variants under consideration with relevant calculations should be submitted to him.
