Tiraspol, February 8. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Reduction and aging of population are intense migration outflow are main features of the Pridnestrovie's demography. The trends are poor, however experts say that there are also certain positive indicies, such as infant mortality reduction and life expectancy increase.

Demographic data is monitored and compared by the Laboratory of Area Studies of the Pridnestrovian State University headed by the Cand. Sc. (Geography), Ass. Prof. Andrey Krivenko.

«Our laboratory researches social and economic development of Pridnestrovie and its population that is a very important part of this system. Following the preliminary figures of the Population Census 2015 we've managed to draw very important conclusions," Krivenko noted, delivering a speech in the Pridnestrovian State University on the Science Day.

According to him, reduction of the Pridnestrovian population has been observed since the beginning of the 90s; in addition, urban population being more mobile most has decreased more quickly. The number of urban and rural population amounts from about 70 to 30% respectively.

«The population census was carried out in Pridnestrovie in 1989, and official sources voiced figures of 740 thousand people. However, if we discard the territories not administered by our authorities (Koshnitsa, Varnitsa), we'll get a number of 680 thousand people. Population census of 2004 showed a number of 555 thousand residents in Pridnestrovie. Preliminary figures of the Censuses 2015 are 475 thousand people," Andrey Krivenko reported.

In addition, comparative data of the Population Census 2004 and the preliminary figures of 2015 showed that a number of residents in the Kamenka District decreased more than by 24%, the Rybnitsa District — almost by 16%, the Dubasary and Grigoriopol Districts — by 17% in 10 years, Tiraspol — by 11,8%, Bendery — by 13% and Slobodzeya District — by 12%.

As for mortality and birth rate, about 5 thousand babies are born in the republic annually, and from 7 to 8 thousand people die. Thus, natural population decline amounts from 2 to 3 thousand people. «In 1994, birth rate and mortality had become equal, but then again mortality became higher. Now, we see that the mortality rate decreases slightly, however the birth rate grows," the head of the Laboratory of Area Studies explained.

Andrey Krivenko emphasized that when monitoring the Pridnestrovie's demographic indicies, one shouldn't give in to panic. It is rather a cause of action. «The data, which we have now, should help us and our state authorities to pursue policy based on these demographic indicators.

«We can see rather successful experience of some countries and international organizations in finding a solution to the demographic problems, so what if we apply them here?! Since there have been already done a lot on this issue in the republic," the expert noted.
