Tiraspol, 19 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A delegation of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Italian province Pesaro-Urbino has arrived with a study visit in Pridnestrovie.
The Italian businessmen have come to the PMR to establish trade and economic relations and agree on cooperation with Pridnestrovian companies. They first met members of the Pridnestrovian government.
The Pridnestrovian side expressed hope that cooperation would be mutually beneficial.
According to the acting first deputy prime minister, Alevtina Slinchenko, Pridnestrovie's current turnout with the Italian Republic amounts to $60 million, most of which accounts for export operations.
"To date, most of the export operations are, unfortunately, based on tolling contracts, but there are reasons and prospects to believe that our foreign trade turnover, including the export of Pridnestrovie's high-quality goods to the Italian market, will intensify soon," said Alevtina Slinchenko.
According to the president of Pesaro-Urbino’s Chamber of Commerce, Alberto Drudi, today only a narrow circle of European partners knows the capabilities of Pridnestrovian manufacturers, but this can be improved.
"In addition to the textile industry, there are other very interesting spheres in Pridnestrovie where you can develop cooperation. These include food production and processing, metalworking and mechanical engineering. As for agriculture, we have already understood which technologies we can develop together, which new processing lines [are required]. We are very interested in the development of furniture production," said Drudi.
The study visit of Italian businessmen will last for a week. The head of the delegation does not rule out that commercial contracts may be signed during this period.
The Italian delegation is also planning to meet the leadership of the Ministries of Economic Development, Agriculture and the Chamber of industry and Commerce. The guests will visit major local plants, including Elektromash, Kvint, Tirotex, and a number of footwear factories.
