Tiraspol, 30 August. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Over $200 million has been invested in the country's social infrastructure — power engineering, public utilities, education and healthcare — in the past five years. As Pridnestrovian President Yevgeny Shevchuk said at a press conference today, this is more than throughout the 26 years of the country's existence, and in some sectors over the past 40 years.

According to the president, the transformations that have affected almost all the cities and major villages of Pridnestrovie speak for themselves about the results of the work by the president and the government.

«You can see today what has been done. You can see repaired schools, polyclinics, hospitals. I want to stress one more time, not in every sector, but a serious, breakthrough step forward to transform, modernise the infrastructure sustaining the livelihoods of our citizens and simply to protect it against collapse," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

He recalled that the initial focus had been to renew the resource-and-technical base of the most important sectors — healthcare and education.

At the same time, the appearance of cities was changing chiefly at the expanse of off-budget sources.

«Just imagine, $60 million has been invested in the public utilities sector since 2012. We have not seen such unprecedented investment throughout the entire history. Of course, our needs are even more than that: if we transformed the central parts of cities, other districts also require such changes. That's what the initial concept aimed at — first to change the central parts of cities, to apply the projects of these concepts to central buildings and then to implement these projects in major cities' residential areas, and further on," noted the president.
