Tiraspol, 16 June. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Ahead of Medical Worker Day (celebrated on Sunday, 19 June), the capital's Palace of Republic hosted a solemn meeting with the participation of the country's leadership. It was noted that in the past four years the healthcare sector had seen large-scale investments, which it had not seen throughout the years of the republic’s existence. All this became possible due to the fact that in 2012 the healthcare and education sectors had become priorities.

«The situation was difficult. Many things that were done have improved the situation, and many things are yet to be done. And what has been done so far is, in my view, a basis on which new structures can be built to develop the sector. You have managed to adopt to new up-to-date equipment, and the quality of medical services you provide is not lower than in Ukraine or Moldova," said the president, emphasising that the same close attention would be given to the healthcare sector in the future.

Nearly $65 million has been invested in Pridnestrovie's healthcare since 2012. This includes the construction of new medical facilities by ANO Eurasian Integration, re-equipment of facilities with up-to-date gear, renovation of hospitals polyclinics. All this made it possible to raise the quality of medical assistance provided in the republic to an entirely new level.

And veterans of the healthcare sector, who were specially honoured at the meeting, also spoke about this.

«I have been a deputy chief doctor for the past 40 years and I must admit I don't remember such a great leap forward in healthcare. Medical facilities are equipped with up-to-date gear which helps to promptly diagnose and treat illnesses. It is also encouraging to see young specialists in our ranks, which means life goes on," noted Vladimir Korotinsky.

Today about 3,000 doctors and 6,000 nurses work in the healthcare sector. There are still many problems left, but doctors continue standing guard over the life and health of the country's citizens.

«Let figures say how difficult the medical worker's job is. So, the last year alone saw 152,000 ambulance calls and 4,000,000 visits to polyclinics, both adult and children. The everyday labour of our medical workers is really arduous and hard," said the healthcare minister.
