Tiraspol, June 6. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridnestrovian State University has taken part in the grand-scale celebration of the Russian Language Day. In memory of the great Russian poet, in honour of whom this holiday had been established several years ago, the students of the university have prepared a special program. It has started with a poetry readings near the university: the winners of the yesterday's poetry contest have gone through several quarters reciting Alexander Pushkin's poems.

«I've chosen the poem 'I have visited again', because Pushkin composed it about the Mikhaylovskoye village where he lived in exile, however he also lived in exile both in Chisinau, and in Tiraspol, so this poem can be also connected with our land," the student of the PSU Physics and Mathematics Faculty Alexander Solovyyov tells.

The Pushkin Poetry Festival has been celebrated for a long time in the main Pridnestrovian higher education institution, but this year it has been more massive. Within the Year of Culture in PSU, a number of events finishing with the today's marathon have taken place there. Event organizers emphasize, June 6 is a day uniting everyone who cares about the Russian language.

«Among other things, a person with higher education should be distinguished by the standard of speech. And we' like our speech to be correct, beautiful, meaningful including stylistically also," the pro-rector for youth policy of the PSU Valentina Eni noted.

Main festive events have been held at the central city library named after A. Pushkin. There was recalled contribution of the poet to world and Russian culture, and also to our region.

«Pushkin is not just a monument for Tiraspol, but also a person who was here. In 1899, one of the central city streets was named after Pushkin, and it is one of the few streets which wasn't renamed by anybody. In 1949, one of the schools was named after him, and in 1991 after installation of a monument to Pushkin near the central city library the tradition to celebrate Days of Slavic Writing and Culture was revived," the director of the Tiraspol Joint Museum Alla Melnichuk notes.

On Alexander Pushkin's birthday, many of his poems have been voiced, the exhibition of his works has been opened. And also there have been dances of that era by participants of the university reconstruction club of historical dances «Vernisage».
