Tiraspol, 13 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie held a population census in October 2015. The census applied to all citizens as well as stateless persons, foreigners permanently residing or temporarily staying in Pridnestrovie. Citizens were interviewed at their homes by specially trained census takers.
According to the government's press service, the procedure started at 0:00, 14 October 2015.
At the present stage, the State Agency for Statistics is continuing to process the census data. Preliminary results, however, have already been summed up.
According to the 2015 census, there are 475,665 permanent residents in Pridnestrovie. In comparison with the 2004 census, Pridnestrovie's population decreased by 79,682 people, or 14.3%.
The male population totalled 45.4%, whereas in 2004 this indicator was 46%. The female population amounted to 54.6% against 54% in 2004. As a consequence, there are 1,201 women for 1,000 men against 1,172 women in 2004.
The number of men decreased by 39,595 persons, or 15.5%, and the number of women fell by 40,087 persons, or by 13.4%.
The urban population totalled 69.9%, and rural residents amounted 30.1% against 68% and 32% in 2004.
