Tiraspol, 9 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The Pridnestrovian president and the OGRF commander spoke to journalists during holiday events dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the Great Victory. As the head of state noted, today's holiday unites all of us, regardless of nationalities.
«This holiday reminds us that we must be together, that we must defend and protect our Motherland, must be loyal and devoted to the memory of our grandfathers. When celebrating Victory Day here in Tiraspol, we remember all soldiers fallen on the front and honour the feat of the Soviet soldier. Both Russians and Moldovans and Ukrainians fought together in the Soviet army… Only together did we manage to resist such a dangerous enemy. And that's what is going on now in Kishinev and Odessa, in my view, is likely to separate rather than unite… 9 May is a uniting holiday. When tens of millions of people were lost, it is not proper time to think about politics, but it is necessary to make sure that the horrors of war will not happen again. And the Russian servicemen have paid a tribute of respect to all who were killed on battle fields," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
The president highlighted Russia's determining role in maintaining peace in our land.
«The Russian soldier has been staying in the Dniester region for over 200 years. And today he is fulfilling a difficult mission of preserving peace within the peacekeeping operation. This is why the whole Pridnestrovie is grateful to the Russian soldier!» said Shevchuk.
The head of state voiced his indignation at attempts of rewriting history.
«Rewriting history makes it possible for a person to forget who he is and who were his forefathers, what they fought for, what they defended, what they loved and built! By no means can one rewrite history. Our neighbours tend to make such attempts… We protect and preserve the historic heritage of the Victory!» concluded the president.
