Bendery, 5 May. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Today's meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) took place in a particularly tense atmosphere. Moldovan delegates bluntly refused to discuss the unsanctioned flights of foreign aircraft in the Security Zone, although Tiraspol officials had earlier expressed their concerns about this issue.
As Pridnestrovie's co-chair to the JCC, Oleg Belyakov, said in an interview with journalists, Romanian aircraft had intruded into Pridnestrovie's airspace and crossed the demarcation zones between the conflict sides for almost a month. He focused on the fact that such actions should be agreed on with competent agencies of the sides and the JCC.
«When foreign planes have been flying over the heads of people for nearly a month, it can naturally perplex the population, local authorities and the Ministry of Defence. And these issues are regularly raised by the Pridnestrovian delegation at JCC meetings. It was evident today that the Moldovan side does not want to discuss the questions of fundamental importance for the fulfilment of peacekeeping mission in the Security Zone. The Moldovan side is not going to reckon with the JCC's opinion, with the opinion of the Pridnestrovian side, with the opinion of all participants of the peacekeeping process and is still taking unilateral actions," said Oleg Belyakov.
However, Moldovan negotiators failed to hear the concerns and refused to discuss this issue, following which the Pridnestrovian delegation initiated an emergency meeting. Kishinev representatives, however, refused to have a dialogue in defiance of the regulations. It should be noted that as opposed to their Moldovan colleagues, the Pridnestrovian side has never ignored JCC emergency meetings.
According to Oleg Belyakov, despite the nonconstructive approach by Moldovan representatives, the PMR's delegation will seek the resolution of this issue within the JCC in order to «take under control all aspects of aircraft's flights in the Security Zone».
