President receives German MP

Attention was given in the course of the meeting to the socio-economic situation in Pridnestrovie and the difficulties citizens are facing

Tiraspol, 20 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Yevgeny Shevchuk has met a member of the German Bundestag, Fritz Felgentreu. He has arrived to Pridnestrovie with an introductory visit, the main aim of which is to learn from the horse's mouth about the country, its state structure, economic and social situation. According to the president's press service, the meeting was also attended by the German ambassador to Moldova, Ulrike Knotz, the director of the German-Moldovan Forum, Julia Moser, and the acting foreign minister, Vitaly Ignatyev, representing the Pridnestrovian side.

During the dialogue with the German MP Yevgeny Shevchuk expressed gratitude for his attention to Pridnestrovie. He also noted the current high level of constructive interaction with Germany's embassy to Moldova.

«We think this helps to create conditions for a better understanding of processes taking place both in and around the country," underscored Yevgeny Shevchuk. The president gave positive evaluation of the role of Germany's OSCE chairmanship in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The head of state pointed out that Pridnestrovian and German approaches on principal issues are similar because the Pridnestrovian side also aims at achieving specific results at the negotiating table, which would enhance people's lives.

Fritz Felgentreu, in turn, said he was «interested to visit Pridnestrovie and talked in person to the country's leadership and public figures».

During the meeting the sides focused on the current socio-economic situation in Pridnestrovie and the difficulties citizens are facing. They discussed issues relating to the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

In the course of the dialogue the interlocutors also talked about cooperation between the two countries on a wide range of areas, including education, culture and ecology.
