President receives delegation of mediators and observers in negotiation process

The delegation is led by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Pridnestrovian Settlement Process, Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt

Tiraspol, 6 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The president met representatives and participants of «The permanent conference…» from Russia, Ukraine, OSCE, USA and the European Union in Tiraspol. The delegation is headed by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt.

At the beginning of the meeting the sides greeted each other.

«Pridnestrovie believes that the attention and involvement of mediators and observers are a considerable and constructive component in the negotiation process," said the president. «The conference format efficiently helps overcome contradictions between the sides.»

«During this visit we have a rare opportunity to gather nearly all the sides of the negotiation process. Almost the complete team is here today. This confirms our commitment and determination to galvanise the process of the Pridnestrovian settlement. We expressed the same idea in Kishinev yesterday," said Cord Meier-Klodt.

During a two-hour dialogue the Pridnestrovian leadership together with mediators and observers conducted a detailed analysis of the trends in the negotiation process over the past 12−18 months and the current state of negotiations at various levels. The sides exchanged views on possible ways out of the crisis characterised by the stagnation of individual negotiation mechanisms.

The international participants of «The permanent conference…» expressed active support for the ongoing negotiation process at all levels, including expert working groups, interaction between political representatives and 5+2 format meetings.

Pridnestrovie, in turn, expressed its principled commitment to the regulation of any conflict issues at the negotiating table within the small steps tactics with the aim of finding such solutions that would promote the improvement of citizens' prosperity, prevent additional restrictions in the spheres of trade and freedom of movement, prevent the expansion of poverty.

In particular, emphasis was put on Pridnestrovie's relevant proposals in the areas of railway and motor transport, as well as mutual recognition of documents issued by the sides' competent authorities. The participants concurred that the achievement of consensus and practical implementation of above proposals, in particular on motor transport, could contribute to the substantive work of «The permanent conference…».

The participants highly evaluated Russia's non-paper proposal released in the mid of March which is aimed at boosting the 5+2 dialogue, making commitments to regulate criminal prosecution issues, prevent unilateral steps and work out an efficient mechanism of implementing achieved agreements.

At the end of the meeting, Yevgeny Shevchuk underscored that within the framework of «The permanent conference…» the Pridnestrovian side has been guided and will be guided by the international documents regulating the 5+2 format. This refers to the «Principles and procedures of conducting a dialogue”, as well as the «Agenda of the official negotiation process” which, however, do not contain any provisions determining in this or that way a formula of a conclusive political settlement of relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. This fact objectively necessitates the resolution of existing socio-economic and humanitarian problems.
