Tiraspol, 5 April. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. It was reported at the meeting of the Public Ecological Council in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources that it was necessary to create a breeding ground for rehabilitation and protection of rare species of plants and animals.
According to the deputy head of the department Elena Nezhinskaya, the Regulation on the State Breeding Ground of Republican Significance «The Lower Dniester» is in the development stage today. She also noted that the problem of rehabilitation and organization of a wildlife sanctuary in Pridnestrovie was «of crucial importance».
As the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources reports, the area of Pridnestrovie's sites under protection amounts to 4 900 hectares. The most part of this area is occupied by the Yagorlyk Reserve — 1 044 hectares and by the reserve protected area — 1 996.37 hectares.
Today, there are 417 rare and endangered species of plants and animals in Pridnestrovie.
