Tiraspol, 9 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The parliament has considered on first reading the government's draft law «On the mass media».
The head of the State Agency for the Mass Media, Irina Deleva, said the bill aims to update public relations in the media sphere. According to her, the current law has become out-of-date.
«The draft law takes into account recent legal, technical and economic changes in the sphere of media production and distribution," underscored Inna Deleva.
In particular, the draft contains general provisions concerning the mass media, media organisation and distribution, confidentiality of information, etc.
The bill provides for the regulation of public relations, which is not stipulated in the current law.
The bill has been worked out as part of legal harmonisation with the Russian Federation.
Answering lawmakers' question about the absence of a provision concerning the foundation status of state-run media outlets, Inna Deleva noted that similar laws in Moldova, Ukraine and Russia do not contain such norms either.
The draft had received a negative assessment of the corresponding parliamentary committee. The head of the committee, Igor Buga, proposed to reject the bill as it does not clearly articulate the notion of «state-run mass media».
As a result, upon the consideration the draft law has been rejected by a majority vote, and its author has been proposed to change the law’s concept.
