MPs intend to check customs activities in 2012-2016

A parliamentary commission has been established to inquire into the suspension of excisable goods import from Ukraine

Tiraspol, 9 March. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Lawmakers have formed a commission to investigate into reductions in the volume of foreign economic activity. It particularly refers to the reasons for the suspension of excisable goods import from Ukraine. This initiative has been backed by 35 MPs.

The commission includes seven MPs, representing the majority. They intend to check the results of customs clearance and payments on all cargoes imported to Pridnestrovie from Moldova and Ukraine in the period from 2012 to 1 March 2016.

A number of MPs have put this period under the spotlight as it was in 2012 when the amount of customs payments to the state budget began to significantly increase as compared to previous years.

Thus, people's deputy Khorzhan proposed to start an inquiry since 2006 in order to have a fuller picture of cargo transportation across the border and ascertain legal entities that were engaged in trade turnover. Besides, Khorzhan proposed to enlarge the commission by adding Andrey Sipchenko. The majority, however, rejected Korzhan's proposal to conduct an inquiry into this matter since 2006. The candidacy of Sipchenko also failed to receive the necessary number of votes (18 votes out of 29 required).

According to other MPs, there is a certain reason to start an investigation into the activities of customs authorities since 2012.

«The year of 2015 saw a two-fold decrease in excisable goods revenue, and the commission aims to analyse the negative dynamics," said Alexander Martynov.

«A new procedure of customs payments was introduced in 2012, which is why it is logical to investigate these isues since 2012," said Oleg Vasilaty.

According to Ilya Vasilyev, extending a parliamentary inquiry to earlier periods makes no sense.

«There is no point in holding investigations since time immemorial," said Vasilyev.

Back in 2015, Ukraine put a ban on the transportation of excisable goods through Pridnestrovie. As a result, our country fell short of 500 million roubles in customs duties.
