Pension age for foreign residents may rise

The proposal of the social protection and labour minister has been backed by the government

Tiraspol, 21 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Pridnestrovie's foreign residents will retire at the age provided for by the legislation of the countries they have come from to Pridnestrovie. This proposal moved by the minister of social protection and labour, Yelena Kulichenko, has been backed by the government.

The pension age in neighbouring states exceeds that in Pridnestrovie. Thus, in Moldova men can retire at the age of 62, and women at 60. Ukraine's pension legislation defines the retirement age of 60 for both men and women.

In Pridnestrovie, women's pension age is 55, and men can retire at 60.

«There has been an increase in the number of cases when citizens from neighbouring states move to Pridnestrovie to have the right to retire pursuant to the Pridnestrovian legislation, although they have never worked in the PMR and haven't participated in the system of the state pension insurance," said Yelena Kulichenko at a cabinet meeting.

At the same time, these countries have abolished pensions for certain groups of citizens who are under retirement age. In Pridnestrovie this practice persists, which also encourages foreigners, who have never worked in the PMR, to move and permanently settle in our country.

The current law «On state pension provision in the PMR» provides for the norm obliging foreign citizens who want to receive pensions in Pridnestrovie to live and work in the country at least 3 years.

The Ministry of Social Protection and Labour proposes that the existing norm be amended and stipulate that foreign citizens who moved to Pridnestrovie to retire may receive pensions in the PMR «when reaching the retirement age provided for in the legislation of the country» they have left for Pridnestrovie.

Now the amendments to the law «On state pension provision in the PMR» are to be considered by the Supreme Council.

It should be noted that there are more than 120,000 labour pensioners in Pridnestrovie, 94,000 of whom are old age pensioners.
