Tiraspol, 12 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The meeting of the Security Council is taking place at the Presidential Administration office. Its main topic is Pridnestroive's economic security and working out measures aiming to counter negative factors affecting the country's economy.
«We have maintained the stable exchange rate of the national currency, thus maintaining the stability of citizens' incomes. This has been achieved in the past four years through the joint efforts of the public authorities. As of today, we are the only CIS state where citizens' salaries and pensions have not been cut due to depreciation. There is even a reduction in prices for some food products. Tariffs for population and legal entities have remained stable. Besides, we can boast one of the lowest inflation rates among CIS states," said the president.
According to Yevgeniy Shevchuk, this result has been achieved «under difficult conditions of disproportions in the economy and political problems».
«Although many economic problems are aggravating during the crisis and affecting the life, the state has managed to retain social stability," noted the president.
He said that «the economic gravity of the ongoing processes shows the dependence of Pridnestrovie's economy and is likely to change the economic situation, putting pressure on social environment as well.» Forecasting implications, according to the president, it is necessary to work out the steps which should be taken by the public authorities to minimise negative scenarios.
As the head of state noted, «a sharp decline in energy prices and nearly global depreciation of national currencies» are evidence of the development of «a systemic crisis».
«It is evident that these processes, showing disproportions in the global economy, will last longer than a year, and further intensification of economic disproportions and upheavals may well lead to political developments in the countries where the crisis will bring down citizens' living standards," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
According to Yevgeny Shevchuk, «all public authorities» and first of all the government and the Supreme Council, «responsible for taking systemic anti-crisis measures», must counter the factors of external negative influence on Pridnestrovie's economy.
«There is the only item on the agenda: to what extent political and economic elites are appropriate to the current situation," underscored the president.
«Given that the crisis is accompanied with lots of rumours and doubts, we should avoid demagogy when involving our intellectual potential into the discussion of problems. Taking different views into account and realising that the majority of economic solutions have their pros and cons, the public authorities must use all resources available to respond to the crisis situation. It is understood that 100% of problems cannot be solved with 10% of resources available," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.
