President: greater number of complicated operations must be performed in Pridnestrovie than abroad

Tiraspol, 23 November. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. During his meeting with Tiraspol residents, which took place in secondary school No. 10, the president was asked under which conditions the Ministry of Public Health finances treatment outside Pridnestrovie.

The health minister, Tatyana Skrypnik, also present at the meeting, clarified that the following categories of Pridnestrovian citizens are referred for treatment abroad: patients with serious cancer stages requiring complicated operations or radiation therapy, children under 15 with any pathologies, patients suffering from acute illnesses requiring emergency medical assistance if this assistance cannot be provided in Pridnestrovie.

«Unfortunately, we do not refer patients today for scheduled operations," said the minister.

Yevgeny Shevchuk added that from the government's point of view it is desirable to perform more operations in Pridnestrovie than to pay expensive treatment abroad. «The concept is we should procure necessary equipment and perform more operations at home," said the president.

«It is clear this requires not only equipment, but also highly-trained specialists, medications," he added.

According to the president, a lot has been done in Pridnestrovie in recent years to fulfil these tasks. And main efforts have been aimed at combating especially dangerous illnesses, «which may pose a threat to the general public», including tuberculosis.

The president also mentioned that the construction or equipping of several medical facilities in Pridnestrovie, including two TB hospitals, oncology and diagnostic centres, is nearing completion. Measures are taken to raise a proficiency level of health personnel and increase the number of professional trainings and seminars for Pridnestrovian doctors.
