President meets Russia's MFA ambassador at large

Yevgeny Shevchuk and Sergey Gubarev discussed issues surrounding the negotiation process

As was noted by President Yevgeny Shevchuk during his meeting with Russia's MFA ambassador at large, Sergey Gubarev, contacts with the representatives of guarantor states are very important for Pridnestrovie. «Your visit is giving us an additional opportunity to discuss all issues surrounding the negotiation process and format. I can state there are a number of signals which, in our opinion, are aggravating the situation on the whole and creating prerequisites for the destabilisation of the negotiation platform as it is," the presidential press office quotes Yevgeny Shevchuk as saying.

According to the president, «we are concerned over Moldova's unilateral actions aimed at further prosecuting Pridnestrovie's authorities.»

«We are also concerned over Moldova's unilateral measures restricting our citizens' freedom of movement in cars registered in Pridnestrovie. In this regard, we think additional efforts are necessary to reveal the nature of what is going on, what it aims at, what are the motives and goals of the partners. Pridnestrovie has always stood for solving issues at a negotiation table based on the initial principles of the negotiation format. One of them is as follows: the parties shall not take unilateral measures aimed at aggravating the situation for the opposite party to create a necessary climate," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The president added that «for almost a year these unilateral measures have been destabilising the climate, making it very tense.»

«This is a subject concern. That's why we'd like to share this concern, discuss the issues surrounding the negotiation format, determine measures for making the negotiation more efficient and aimed at coming to mutually acceptable agreements for the benefit of citizens and economic agents," underscored the president.

Yevgeny Shevchuk also pointed out that there are many impulses for economic instability. In particular, Pridnestrovian citizens worry about Ukraine's tensions.

«I want to emphasise the peacekeeping operation is still ongoing in the territory of Pridnestrovie, all its participants make efforts to maintain peace and order we have now and keep the sides from more aggressive forms of confrontation," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

According to the president, «Pridnestrovie is still going to participate in the peacekeeping format so that nobody will ever attempt to solve political issues and differences by force.»

In his turn, the ambassador expressed regret he had not been to Tiraspol in a long time.

«I want to say Tiraspol has changed and got prettier in the months I was away. I do not think this is due to anniversary celebrations only, on which I am congratulating you one more time, Mr President. I believe this is further development of the Pridnestrovians' approach of making life more beautiful, despite the difficulties they are facing. I agree with you that the situation around Pridnestrovie is very difficult," noted Sergey Gubarev.

The ambassador also noted that any calls for the so-called transformation of the peacekeeping mission «are, putting it mildly, irresponsible and, in fact, criminal.»

«Thanks to this very format of the peacekeeping operation, which has been carried out in Pridnestrovie, peace is preserved here," said Gubarev.

The parties also discussed the need to stir up the work of the 5+2 format.
