Colleagues and associates of Valeriy K. Charyiev have come to his grave for more than 20 years. On the anniversary of the Procuracy and judicial bodies, officers from both agencies specially emphasise his personal contribution to the establishment of one of Pridnestrovie's first institutions of power.

«There appeared a phenomenon of 'no man's land'. No neighbouring country claimed this territory, but we had to live, had to establish institutions existing in any normal society. As lawyers, we realised that criminal charges might be brought against us by our Kishinev colleagues. And this is what they later did," recalled the Constitution Court judge, Sergey Stepanov, then a deputy procurator.

Procuracy officers were the first among state authorities to come under the jurisdiction of the newly established republic and took active part in its formation.

«It is the appointment of Valeriy Charyiev that inaugurated the Procuracy and initiated the formation of the PMR. This man swore in the first president of the republic and took part in drafting many laws. It is hard to imagine how these men dared to take the decision which became the turning point for many people," noted the procurator of the republic, Alexander Deli.

Tribute of respect was also paid to Viktor Korotenko (Pridnestrovie's first minister of justice) and Boris Luchik (who was appointed procurator of the republic after Korotenko's death in 1992).

«These people laid the professional foundations for us, today's lawyers. They are the example of solidarity and unity which shows what can be achieved through joint efforts," underscored Olga Zvarych, minister of justice.

In tribute to the memory of Valeriy Charyiev, Viktor Kototenko and Boris Luchik a minute of silence was observed.

After that Procuracy and Ministry of Justice officers laid flowers to the tombs at Tiraspol's Glory Memorial.
