In his speech the president emphasised that the history of the Russian military presence in the territory of today's Pridnestrovie is estimated at more than two centuries. «Before the Russian soldier came, this land had been sparsely populated. But when the Russian soldier had settled here, brought peace and stability, the territory came to get populated, the towns began to develop, the people began to build their life," said the president.
On behalf of the Pridnestrovian people and governmental authorities, Yevgeny Shevchuk expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the Russian military for their invaluable contribution to the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester banks, one of the world's most efficient operations, the presidential press office reports.
«It is difficult to imagine the outcomes of the tragedy in 1992 but for the active interference of the 14th army," noted the president. «Pridnestrovians do not differentiate today between Russian and Pridnestrovian armies and consider all of you their defenders," he underscored.
Yevgeny Shevchuk also pointed out that today the peacekeepers are facing extra risks due to the regional instability. «Whoever tries to put restrictions on you, he will fail. The Pridnestrovian people stands with you! Together, defending peace and life, we defend justice," noted the president.
Yevgeny Shevchuk wished the soldiers «to use their highly professional skills only during exercises.»
