Russia's vice premier, Dmitriy Rogozin, gave high appreciation of the work of the joint detachment of Russian rescuers who have finished dismantling the wrecking cable way in Rybnitsa.
With its part crossing the Dniester, the cable way was one of Rybnitsa's points of interest. It had not been in use for 20 years and come into wrecking state. The dismantling started in 2014. The rescuers had to dismantle the construction both manually and by means of a Mi-26 helicopter because the cable way went over the residential areas. On the whole they have taken apart eight spans, each of which weighs about 20 tonnes, and dismantled the anchor bridge pillar and transport rope, weighing about 50 tonnes and over 30 tonnes, respectively.
«This is unique operation as for its complexity, audacity and high professionalism. Russia supports Pridnestrovie; we provide it with everything necessary so that its citizens could survive under economic isolation. We are glad to have taken all exhaustive measures and carried out the operation in time," said Rogozin on Tuesday at the ceremony of rewarding the operation participants, reports RIA Novosti.
He emphasised the special conditions under which the operation was carried out and the timeliness of its implementation. «This is the zone of the ongoing conflict. To carry out the operation, special equipment, including a powerful weight lifting helicopter, had to be brought to the site," clarified the vice premier: «If we had started a bit later, now we wouldn't be allowed to get there. We couldn't pass through the Odessa region, where Saakashvili has been appointed governor. And this dangerous construction could have collapsed onto heads of local residents, which we would never forgive ourselves.»
The head of Russia's emergency control ministry, Vladimir Puchkov, said that the success of the operation had not been ensured through the rescuers' courage and professionalism only, but also through the accurate scientific calculation preceding the work. «Nobody undertook to execute this operation, or they demanded enormous financing, but our guys have calculated and carried out everything. I'd like to express gratitude to them for proving one more time that Russia is always ready to help people who got into trouble," said the minister.
