There is an especially extreme need for medical doctors in pediatric and casualty departments. The minister of health, Tatyana Skrypnik, said in an interview with journalists that the branch lacks 350−400 specialists. The university's medical department cannot satisfy this need alone because it graduates only about 50 doctors each year.
«We do our best to create opportunities for receiving every kind of post-graduate training: by means of domestic resources and invitation of foreign specialists and by sending our doctors to qualification courses. Besides, it was decided to open the department of pediatrics so that students may major in children's medicine. We already have such students and hope that in a few years we will make good deficit in this area," said Tatyana Skrypnik.
The Ministry of Health participates in both preliminary and final assignment of medical department graduates. «We talk to each graduating student on the necessity of taking an internship at the medical institution where it is especially required.
Besides, we conclude an agreement with every student (whose study if financed by the state) obliging him/her to work within three years in Pridnestrovie's healthcare system. For instance, last year we managed to assign 20 young specialists in this way.
On the whole, according to Tatyana Skrypnik, the personnel problem is a major concern of the Health Ministry, and its solution (alongside the enhancement of material and technical basis) is one of the priorities in the ministry's work.
