UNDP summs up joint work with Pridnestrovie's public health Ministry

The arrangements for further collaboration aim at supplying equipment for emergency medical aid to children's departments

The minister of public health, Tatyana Skrypnik, held a meeting with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The attendees summed up a working visit of UNDP experts and discussed further cooperation between the Ministry of Public Health and the international organisation.

The joint work of the both organisations has already yielded noticeable results in the area of healthcare. So, with the assistance of the UNDP joint programmes in the area of protection of motherhood and childhood are being implemented. As part of this project, centres for mothers and children in Tiraspol, Bendery, Grigoriopol, Rybnitsa, Slobodzeya have been supplied with special equipment at a total cost of about $580,000, including heated tables for neonatal resuscitation, artificial respiration units, incubators, foetal monitors and other equipment, reports the press service of the Ministry of Public Health.

The UNDP representatives commended the cooperation in this area. «The results are positive, the equipment is operating, and patient service quality has already improved. This time, as well as during our previous visits, we have worked quite fruitfully with the staff of perinatal centres. I believe this cooperation underlined the positive results we have achieved," noted Alin Stanescu, a UNDP expert.

Further arrangements for the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Health and the UNDP include supply of emergency medical aid equipment to children's departments, assistance in repairing perinatal centres in Grigoriopol and Slobodzeya, advanced professional training of Pridnestrovie's medical personnel.

As part of this project, Pridenstrovie's specialists have already received appropriate training in Tiraspol and Kishinev. Tatyana Skrypnik highlighted the proposal to establish a medical training centre based on Pridnestrovie's Centre for Mothers and Children and continue cooperation in the field of medical literature provision.

«The protection of motherhood and childhood in our republic is a priority of our work, and in this respect our cooperation with the UNDP is fruitful, prospective and aimed at enhancing medical aid quality. We highly appreciate the cooperation and comprehensive approach to the problems, broader perspective of the situation, as well as complexity and phasing in the implementation of our joint work. Ant the experts' assessment is the key for planning more constructive projects," said the minister.

The international experts acknowledged a remarkable progress in every sphere of the cooperation. «I estimate this visit as useful and productive. I have already noted on repeated occasions that no expert can succeed without well-established local cooperation. And this is what has been fully implemented here," emphasised Alin Stanescu.

The UNDP is a global network of the United Nations in the field of development. One of its goals is free access to the sources of knowledge, practical experience and resources, including material and technical, in order to improve the lives of people. The UNDP works in 166 countries of the world, assisting them in elaborating their own decisions on the problems of global and national development. Pridnestrovie's Ministry of Public Health has been fruitfully collaborating with the UNDP in Moldova since 2013.
