It was headed by the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Moldova Nicola Harrington-Buhay. The PMR party was also represented by the Deputy Prime Minister on the international cooperation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski
The topical issues of cooperation were discussed, the President’s press office reports. The United Nations Development Programme and other UN agencies implemented a number of social and humanitarian projects under the direction of Nicola Harrington-Buhay in Pridnestrovie. Cooperation with the UN agencies is encouraged in such important areas as the social infrastructure recovery, the acceleration of the health care system development, the HIV spreading response, orphanage support.
"Over the last years the UN mission invested significant means into the Pridnestrovie’s infrastructure without any political overtone. The funds were used to improve the living conditions for the citizens irrespective of their gender, nationality or political preferences," the President Evgeny Shevchuk emphasized during the meeting.
Owing to the UN agencies’ effective work, the medical equipment necessary for the urgent medical aid rendering was provided to Rybnitsa's maternity hospital. Also, a great number of infrastructure projects were carried out within the healthcare and education areas, e.g.: the renovation of the Bendery emergency station, the medical admission unit of Rybnitsa Regional Hospital and perinatal center and also the kindergarten in Karagash, Slobodzeya Region. Besides, the project, concerning the solar batteries mounting on the Pridnestrovie’s 10 socially important facilities reconstructed earlier by the UNDP, has been started. Their installation will allow to provide these facilities with hot water.
The parties also exchanged their views on the UNCHR Senior Expert Thomas Hammarberg’s recommendations reflected in the special report. "The Pridnestrovie’s government takes the UN Senior Expert’s recommendations as the basis for dealing some issues concerning the protection of human rights," Evgeny Shevchuk told.
It was also told that the improvement projects in the areas of the population immunity and TBC patients’ therapy are developed and implemented through the World Health Organization cooperated with UNICEF. "Pridnestrovie receives international aid including very expensive medicines. It has always been a problem for us to receive them in sufficient quantity and in proper time. We have regular contacts with our colleagues. The Ministry of Health, the Department of Social Protect and the Ministry of Education are involved in this work. Together we’ll try to do everything to implement more projects that our people need badly," the Pridnestrovie’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski emphasized in the interview.
The aspects concerning the rural, ecological and cultural tourism development in Pridnestrovie and the refuse reclamation project in the Slobodzeya Region were also discussed at the meeting.
The President Evgeny Shevchuk expressed his hope that the reached cooperation would be preserved and would even be expanded in all areas of the mutual interest.
