According to Pridnestrovie's Republican Bank (PRB), the project will be launched next spring
Banking experts note that the issue of developing non-cash payments is very urgent today. The bill on a new payment system was developed last year and is currently under consideration in the Supreme Council. Its main difference from already existing commercial systems is that it will be a universal instrument of payment across the republic.
"These cards are supposed to be used for receiving salaries and pensions, as a payment instrument in any point-of-sale, for participating in bank projects, that is for a wide range of operations," the head of the Macroeconomic Analysis and Currency Regulation Department of the PRB, Maria Melnik, said in an interview to Pridnestrovie's First Channel.
This idea has been backed up by EximBank. The bank's spokespersons explain that functioning of different payment systems under conditions of our republic results in inconvenience. If you already use a bank card, you must have faced the problem that only your bank's terminal accepts it. The new unitary payment system will help to avoid this situation.
"In the months ahead we plan to equip with POS terminals the majority of large shops in the republic. By the mid spring of 2015 we plan to launch this project," says Maria Melnik.
The project will be implemented with the assistance of the Russian company, which adjusts an analogous payment system in Russia. According to the PRB, it is just the first step; the second aims at crossing Pridnestrovie's borders. Subject to corresponding agreements, the new cards, for example, might function in Russia.
