Today she has had a meeting with Igor Shornikov, a deputy minister of foreign affairs
During the meeting it was noted that constructive partnerships had been formed between the Council of Europe and Pridnestrovie, the MFA press service reports. In particular, the projects for mass-media and civilian sector development, higher education projects, as well as projects for cultural heritage preservation and human rights promotion, are being carried out. Igor Shornikov highlighted the projects aimed at the improvement of health service in penal institutions and those aimed at the enhancement of inclusive education. The deputy minister appreciated the Council of Europe's intentions to assist Pridnestrovie in implementing recommendations made by Thomas Hammarberg, a UN chief expert on human rights.
Anna Capello, in turn, noted the aim of her visit to Tiraspol was to check the implementation of projects and organisation of events in Pridnestrovie. According to her, the Council of Europe is exploring possible areas of cooperation with Pridnestrovie, and the working programme for 2015 is under scrutiny now.
During the meeting the participants also discussed the Council of Europe's potential for providing assistance in resolving such urgent issues in the negotiating process as legalisation of Pridnestrovie's education certificates and Pridnestrovie's citizens being forcedly documented by Moldova's authorities.
At the end of the meeting the parties agreed to maintain cooperation on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
