17 August marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction of Pridnestrovie's national currency
Today, an opening ceremony of the sculptural composition "Pridnestrovian Ruble" has taken place in front of the Republican Bank of Pridnestrovie (RBP). The event was attended by the head of the RPB, Edward Kosovsky, the chairman of the Government, Tatyana Turanskaya, the head of the Presidential Administration, Nadezhda Baranova, the head of Tiraspol, Andrey Bezbabchenko.
According to the chairman of the RBP, Edward Kosovsky, today's ceremony is an extraordinary event for the republic. "We are unveiling the monument to the Pridnestrovian ruble, and this event is not at all groundless. 17 August marks the 20the anniversary of the introduction of our national currency. The Pridnestrovian ruble has come a thorny path. In 1990s it was called 'a wrapper'; in the early 2000s its status rose to 'a wooden ruble', and now we can positively say there are some grains of metal discernible in it. I am sure these grains will increase in number as the years go by," underscored Edward Kosovsky.
The ruble monument, which is two metres high , has been erected in front of the RBP office. The composition represents the Pridnestrovian ruble's graphic symbol which has a stylized 'in-built' 1 ruble coin, made of bronze with steel milled edge.
The author of the monument's concept is Evgeny Vazhayev, the drafts have been made by artists Vasily Rudyaga and Christian Kessler, the sculptor is Yevgeny Iovitsa.
The monument's parts were made at the Kirov Litmash Works, Tiraspol's souvenir factory and OOO "Raduga Style"
It should be noted that such monuments to monetary units are fixed up in different countries around the world. There are two monuments to the Russian ruble in Russia, a monument to the Euro in Germany, to the peseta in Spain, and to the dram in Armenia.
