Tiraspol, April, 11. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. The memory is gathering people at obelisks and mass graves again and again. The action Memorial Candle is being held for the 9th time. In the run-up to the anniversary of the liberation of the city from occupation, the people of Tiraspol come to the Memorial of Glory to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.
“Tiraspol is a city of military glory, a city of workers. In spite of everything, we pay great attention to the fact that the memorial candle of those who allowed the city to be like that will not fade. We are sincerely and heartily grateful to all those who laid down their lives, so that future generations could feel free, speak their native language, love their land and not think that someone could dominate us,” the head of the state administrations of Tiraspol and Dnestrovsk Oleg Dovgopol noted.
Many are not here for the first time. Sincere gratitude for the great feat in the name of humanity is expressed by all participants of the action.
“I am a citizen of Tiraspol, and I am glad that I can walk these streets in safety, breathe this clean air. I bow down to all defenders,” the pupil of the 5th year of the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School, Heinrich Igonin said.
Also today, April 11, is the International Day of the liberation of Nazis concentration camps` prisoners. More than 11 million people of various nationalities died there. Every fifth was a child.
“I want to address you on behalf of the children of war. We used to bury the remains of the dead on the outskirts of the village at nights. Liters of blood flowed like a river. We fought with adults during the war, and I wish the young people that they would never know the horrors that we`d witnessed,” Tatiana Poyata, chairperson of the Tiraspol former Nazis prisoners society said.
The city was liberated after 970 days and nights of occupation. It is safe to say that the torch of remembrance will never be lost, because the younger generation is picking it up with responsibility and pride. Today there were a large number of young people at the memorial - those who really know the feat of our soldiers, remember it and will pass the memory further on. This was evidenced by hundreds of lights in the hands of those who came to the Memorial of Glory that evening.
