Tiraspol, March, 18. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. A meeting with the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova Derek Hogan was held in the Pridnestrovian Parliament.
At the beginning of the meeting, Parliament Speaker Alexander Korshunov noted that, despite the fact that, in accordance with the Constitution, the sphere of foreign policy is within the competence of the head of state and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Council also has a special interest in it, since the situation at the outer boundaries of the republic affects the voters` lives. According to the head of the legislative body, all branches and authorities are on the same consolidated page in the external sphere.
“The Supreme Council is the highest representative and the only legislative authority. Its deputies represent the interests of citizens. Therefore, the permanent agenda of our activity is the creation of conditions for the development of the economy and the social sphere and, as a result, an increase in the citizens` welfare,” Alexander Korshunov stated.
In turn, the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament, Galina Antyufeeva, commenting on the outcome of the meeting, stressed that the main emphasis was placed on socio-economic, humanitarian and cultural issues. The theme of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement has also been implicated.
“We agreed with the representatives of the American Embassy that such meetings would be continued. This is extremely important and necessary for the prompt solution of the problems that our voters address to us. The agreements reached during the negotiation process should be implemented in the legislative framework. This will serve as an additional guarantee that they will be implemented. Unfortunately, not all of them are carried out by the Moldovan side,” Galina Antyufeeva said.
