Tiraspol, 2 September. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Celebrations on the 27th anniversary of Pridnestrovie has continued in the capital's central square. Thousands of Pridnestrovians could see a military parade involving 19 squads.
The commander-in-chief of the Pridnestrovian Armed Forces, Vadim Krasnoselsky, welcomed the servicemen and spectators.
«Twenty-seven years separates us from the historical and fateful day when the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic was proclaimed. This holiday has become a symbol of pride, patriotism and unity of Pridnestrovians. It expresses citizens' aspirations to see their country independent and free," underscored the president.
The president expressed special gratitude to the country's defenders who protected Pridnestrovie in the most difficult war period. «The Armed Forces today are the basis of our security and independence. They are a well-functioning body nurtured in the best traditions of Pridnestrovian patriotism. A trained and efficient army is a deterrent to many hot heads from neighbouring countries," Krasnoselsky believes.
The president also thanked Russia for its assistance and support provided to our country. He recalled that it was the Russian soldier who stopped Moldova's armed aggression against Pridnestrovie in 1992 and has selflessly preserved peace on our soil for over 25 years. And Pridnestrovians are immensely grateful for that.
The squad of Dzerzhinsky Republican Cadet School opened the parade. They were followed by 18 more squads, representing the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of State Security, Investigative Committee, as well as servicemen of the peacekeeping forces, etc.
The defence minister, Oleg Obruchkov, commanded the parade.
As soon as the last squad had left the square, the soldiers of the Honour Guard Company showed their skills to the audience.
Judging by the ovation, which accompanied both the parade and the exhibition drills, the Pridnestrovians and foreign guests liked the show.
