Putin: Russia may be guarantor of Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement if sides find compromise

The Russian leader praised the meeting of the presidents of Moldova and the PMR, which took place in early January

Tiraspol, 17 January. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. Russia may be a guarantor of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian settlement if the sides find the necessary compromise, said Russian President Vladimir Putin on the results of his meeting with the Moldovan leader, Igor Dodon, RIA Novosti reports.

The Russian leader praised the meeting of Igor Dodon with Pridnestrovian President Vadim Krasnoselsky, which took place in early January, noting that it might create «very good conditions for the start of such substantive serious negotiations on the Pridnestrovian settlement».

He also recalled that the sides had been close to a settlement of the conflict in 2003, but failed to realise the plan.

«I really hope we will be able to revisit this issue. Not in words but in deeds. And to find a compromise, taking into account the interests of all the people who live in this region. If such a compromise — and it can be reached only by Moldova and Pridnestrovie themselves — is found, we will certainly act as a guarantor of the fulfilment of all agreements," said Putin.
