Pridnestrovie hopes Moldova to return to negotiating table

President Yevgeny Shevchuk believes this should be promptly done as economic problems will be tormenting the republic in the coming years

Tiraspol, 6 December. /Novosti Pridnestrovya/. President Yevgeny Shevchuk expects that the new leadership of Moldova will understand the necessity of returning to the negotiating table, returning to the constructive positive accords and agreements which have already been reached within the framework of the negotiation process, the head of state said in an interview with RTR Moldova.

«This should be done as soon as possible because, as experts say, economic problems will be tormenting our region in 2017 and 2018," underscored Yevgeny Shevchuk.

According to him, confidence between the sides has been lost over the past year; there have been many aggressive statements and actions on the part of the Moldovan side, which aggravates the negotiation situation.

«The implications are that in 2016 we could not fulfil almost anything; we are marking time while life is going forward. And if we cannot keep up with life, we will be certainly lagging behind. If Kishinev thinks that only Tiraspol will be lagging behind, it is mistaken. Removing tensions in relations between Kishinev and Tiraspol, on the contrary, creates preconditions for economic stabilisation," believes Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The president also noted that the PMR was ready to build good-neighbourly relations, to reach the level of interaction that would not prevent the movement of citizens and goods.

«We should promote economic processes to make people's lives easier. If Pridnestrovie and Kishinev establish pragmatic, mutually beneficial interaction in the economic sphere, many problems will become less acute for both Kishinev and Tiraspol. We are aimed at it, ready for it," said the head of state.
