Yevgeny Shevchuk: certain political elites in Moldova seem to be seeking confrontation with Pridnestrovie

During a meeting with the international press-tour participants, the president highlighted the issue of Moldova's law enforcement agencies bringing politically motivated criminal charges against a number of Pridnestrovian officials and businessmen

«Now we can see manifestations of aggression in every sphere of our cooperation. If this trend continues, a serious deterioration of the interaction climate can be expected. It seems that certain political elites in Moldova are seeking confrontation with Pridnestrovie and have a definite motivation," said Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The president also focused on the urgency of a settlement formula, voiced by Pridnestrovie at the conference on confidence building measures, which took place in Germany in 2013.

«A very efficient formula in respect to maintaining stability in this region of Europe is a peaceful, civilised, conflict-free break-up. This optimal formula is still on agenda," underscored Yevgeny Shevchuk.

The press-tour participants also showed interest in the aspects of relationship-building between Pridnestrovie and Ukraine. The foreign journalists noted the aggressive rhetoric used by Ukraine's media towards Pridnestrovie and also touched upon the issues of Ukraine's military build-up near its border with Pridnestrovie.

«Ukraine is a very important partner for us, a settlement guarantor, one of participants in the negotiation process, the sate which received about 100,000 refugees from Pridnestrovie in 1992. But a military build-up near the border is an unfriendly act towards neighbours. This worries and disturbs all Pridnestrovians," said the president. However, Yevgeny Shevchuk emphasised again Pridnestrovie does not present any military threat.

According to the president's press office, the participants of the International Press-tour shared positive impressions of their visit to Pridnestrovie during the meeting with Yevgeny Shevchuk. The president thanked foreign journalists for their interest to Pridnestrovie.
